Rescue Goat Thinks She’s A Human

Rescue Goat Thinks She’s A Human

September 3, 2025

When heavy rains swept across Australia’s mid-east coast, floodwaters left behind more than just debris. Among the wreckage, a caring resident stumbled upon a fragile baby goat fighting to survive a freezing night alone.

The tiny survivor was weak, unwell, and desperately in need of help. Rushed to the vet and placed on round-the-clock care, her recovery demanded patience, bottle feedings nearly every hour, and a lot of love. Slowly but surely, she pulled through — and with her strength came a surprising personality.

Her caretakers quickly realized she wasn’t just adjusting to life indoors… she was thriving in it. From chewing on earlobes for comfort to racing through the house in makeshift diapers, this little goat wasn’t acting like livestock at all. With every passing day, she grew sassier, smarter, and more certain that she belonged right alongside her human family.

Watch the video below to see how Cherry, the goat with an identity crisis, is proving that sometimes rescue animals rewrite their own stories in the most unexpected ways.

💡 Did You Know?

Goats are far more intelligent and emotionally aware than many people realize. Studies have shown that goats can learn their names in just a few days, recognize individual voices, and even remember human faces for years. Their social intelligence is often compared to that of dogs, and they use eye contact and subtle gestures to communicate with humans in surprisingly sophisticated ways.

One particularly fascinating aspect of goat behavior is their ability to learn words and associate them with actions. Much like Cherry picking up cues such as “bedtime” and “milk,” goats are natural problem-solvers who thrive when given attention and stimulation. Researchers at Queen Mary University of London even discovered that goats look to humans for help when faced with difficult tasks — a trait once thought to be unique to domesticated pets like dogs.

Beyond intelligence, goats are also highly affectionate. They form close bonds not just with other goats, but with people, often treating their caretakers as part of the herd. For rescued animals like Cherry, this can mean blurring the line between farm animal and family member. What begins as survival often blossoms into trust, playfulness, and, in Cherry’s case, a belief that she’s more human than goat.
